The Government of Tamil Nadu has established Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University in July 2008 to promote excellence in Teacher Education

As per the rule of Central Government, the University would eligible for getting financial assistance for various academic, research activities and also for getting permission to implement new education programmes only after getting 12(B) status to the University from the University Grants Commission.

In order to get 12(B) status to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, a proposal has been submitted to the UGC in the year 2020 by Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.

Subsequently, the UGC’s Expert Committee visited the University in February 2021 and submitted its report to the UGC. The Reports of Expert’s Committee was placed before the 551st Meeting of the UGC and the Committee decided to recommend approval of 12(B) status to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University and to include the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University in the list of State Universities under section 12(B) of UGC Act 1956.

We respectfully convey my gratitude to the Hon’ble Chancellor of this University, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor of this University, Respected Principal Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, Members of Syndicate, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Dean of Faculty, Head of the Departments, Faculties, Non-Teaching Staff, Students and Correspondents of Affiliated Colleges of Education, Principals, Professors who are directly and indirectly helping us to get 12(B) status to Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.

Further, the grant of UGC 12(B) status would support the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University for getting financial assistance from Central Government, UGC and other institutions and also to implement the new education programmes in the University.
